My father was just telling me his uncle, Alf Mabbett, was on the front of a Birmingham newspaper, after being sacked from Scribbans' bakery in Hockley. There had been a strike, but some staff continued to work. Once the strike was over, the "blacklegs" were sacked, because the rest of the staff...

Showell's Dictionary of Birmingham (1885), p192 says: Do we know any more about this incident, or the ship involved? Presumably, it was also exhibited elsewhere - but where?
