Oh yes, we had a couple of quite sadistic female teachers. One of them had a particularly nasty habit of walking up and down the aisles between the desks and hitting any miscreants on the back of the hand with the edge of a ruler. I was on the receiving end a couple of times, usually for talking.
My Father worked as a waiter there in the 20s,so thanks for all the info about it.

Hi Jean, I remember a family of Martins, don't know if they are the same ones, it's not an uncommon name. there was a Billy , Jean, Joyce, Janet, & Jimmy. Their house was about midway between Lodge Road and Trinity road.
