Just to say I re-checked the Carl Chinn article and it definitely says Avenue Road. I think it’s referring to a factory in Avenue Road, Aston, as my relative did factory work until she retired. It mentions his Aunt Win being seen on the bus from Erdington in 1990, to go to work at the Wheel.

I was reading an article by Carl Chinn, in The Birmingham Mail. He mentioned “The Birmingham Wheel” in Avenue Road. I’ve recently found out that a relative of mine worked there, (sadly now deceased). Does anyone have any info on the wheel please, as I can’t find any mention of it here.

Thanks. Judging by the dates, that does seem to confirm he must have worked at Elmdon, as I do know he'd moved on to a different job by about 1964-1965.

Thanks for your replies and the picture. Still not sure whether it was buses or railway carriages though, as unfortunately I don't know the dates he worked there. I think it would be between the mid fifties to mid sixties. But Elmdon rings a bell, so possibly it was there. I seem to remember...

My father died recently and I have just discovered that he worked for Metro Weyman before the mid sixties. What did Weyman make?

Does anyone have any photos of Stoneyhurst Road, Erdington please? I've searched the web but can't find a thing. My parents lived at No. 16 in the early 1950's, when they were living with the Parker family. It was my mother's parents house.

Thanks for sharing that with me :) A front garden is quite unusual for that area, so I'm quite surprised to hear that. I've never been there though, afraid I wasn't born till the sixties so they lived there way before my time.

My grandad's family also used to live at Oak Cottages, 7 Erskine Street. My grandad was John Allsopp, and I know that he lived there around 1916 before going off to fight in WW1. The address is shown on his army records. He married my gran Olive (nee Rhodes) in 1917 and they lived at Oak...
