    Clock dealers in Birmingham

One of my ancestors was a Thomas Rudd, born Feb 1809. He became a clock and watchmaker in Dudley, starting at Castle Street in 1836, then in Wolverhampton Street from 1841 to 1850, and in 1850 in Market Place. He must have had a good deal of competition: eleven other clock and watchmakers are...

Can anyone identify this Birmingham house, please?

Personally, I think this topic is exhausted now. I know no more about the house, except for how it entangles with my own family history, which is a more private matter. But I do thank everyone, and of course I can't stop others keeping on with further comments, but I shan't comment further on this.

Can anyone identify this Birmingham house, please?

I've now solved the house mystery - and Keiron, you were right: it was indeed more rural. I tracked it down to Fladbury, Worcestershire, and (a) it's where George Lingard's second wife died (Fladbury was her home town) and (b) the house still exists, altered but still recognisable. Many...

Thank you, but I didn't know how to do that, and in my case my e-address is already online on my own website, which I sometimes plug on social media, because I'm a writer and sometimes people want to be able to e-mail me.

    Lozells Institution and The Lozells

Yes, I appreciate that I could order the death certificate, but as I said, he was rather on the periphery of my family, and I have to limit my applications for birth marriage & death certificates to people more directly linked: otherwise it would get far too expensive. But thank you for your...

Dear Keith, like you I am a descendant of George Bowen, father of Howard Prime Bowen, and I would like to be able to share further information with you. Please could you either give me your e-mail address or use mine to open an exchange of info? My e-address is [email protected]. Thank you.

    Lozells Institution and The Lozells

Thank you. It does rather suggest, as you conclude, that "it could just have been the way people spoke of Lozells", given the example you quote from the same month as my Leamington Spa Courier quote. But I'll just have more of a look for "the Lozells Institution Room" (again, same month), so...

    Lozells Institution and The Lozells

I ask because a peripheral relative by marriage died aged 21 in 1849 and the death notice in the Leamington Spa Courier of August 4 1849 just said "DIED... at the Lozells, Handsworth, Robert Abbotts Lingard". I wondered if this meant there was an institution, eg mental hospital, named The...

Hello you Bowen descendants. I connect to this family too. Jonas Bowen's son George married my ggg-aunt Maria nee Rudd; her parents are my Rudd ggg-grandparents. I have a certain amount of information, but will need to absorb all the info already posted on this thread before I can see if I have...

    German organisations/links with Birmingham

Many thanks to everyone who has responded to my enquiry about the German Club. It's been my second query since joining the forum, and I'm greatly heartened by how active it is and how generous people are with their time. It's been most helpful, and I hope there may come a time when I can offer...

Many thanks - I had tried to find a report in the paper, but had only looked at earlier dates. This is great to see.
