    Coroners of Birmingham

Morning! I'm not sure if any of you can help me. I'm trying to find out the background of the Birmingham coroners. I'm writing a piece on what influenced coroner's decisions when ruling suicide as a side quest to my PhD and I'd like to include how their careers etc may have influenced them, but...

Morning Elaine, I'm so sorry to have just seen your post 6 years after you first posted it! I hope you are well? How did you get on with the book? Birmingham fatal drownings 20th Century

Quite afew people walked into the canal in the dark or the fog. Not Birmingham but I found a record of a piermaster in runcorn drowning when trying to light the lamps at the docks. The Weaver Navigation Trustees had decided not to light the lamps after May 14th but said if he wanted them lit he...

    Birmingham fatal drownings 20th Century

Yes, there's several articles where road accidents and drowning are compared. I've also found quite afew articles where one person says one thing and another contradicts them throughout the century. It's made very exciting reading.

    Stories and tales

Following on from all your amazing responses to my previous post about my PhD research, I'm going to risk a cheeky ask! Do any of you have or know people who have stories about canal workers learning to swim? I've found one story in a book about 2 boys taught to swim by their father tying a rope...

    Birmingham fatal drownings 20th Century

It's a bit of a soap box for me I'm afraid. ALL SHOULD LEARN TO SWIM! My mother is terrified of water as she cant swim and my father wasn't a strong swimmer in any shape of the imagination. They were adamant that we would learn, and I've found a love for it. When doing my proposal for this PhD...
