    Question: the "Lukes" football?

Oh, I see. That is too bad. But this is definitely the team my great grandfather wrote about. My sincere thanks for your invaluable help in answering my question.

    Question: the "Lukes" football?

Thank you both so much. Now that I've looked up where West Bromwich Albion plays - and has played since 1900 - it makes good sense that they would be "the Albion" in question. Does Cradley Heath St. Luke’s still exist in some form?

    Question: the "Lukes" football?

Hello. I'm writing from Canada, so please excuse my lack of local footie knowledge, I just discovered a letter by my great grandfather who was living in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in July 1912. Futurist Theatre

Thank you. Great article; I had wondered if the war had battered it. Nice to see the old interior photos too.

    Greengrocer in Birmingham and District

I suspect so. My 2nd great-grandfather was Henry (or Harry) Dorse (1854-1926), a builder in Cradley Heath. His younger brother, Thomas was the shop owner. See Henry/Harry's obit from The Birmingham Post, 8 Oct 1926, attached.

Thanks for this info. (They're likely not moving too many rabbits at Tescos.)

    Greengrocer in Birmingham and District

Claribel's maiden name was Dorse. I believe that is the name on the sign above the door in this photo. I imagine this was the store in Cradley Heath. (My condolences to the local rabbit population.)
