    The Holte Public House Aston

    Possibly the last gaffer of The Holte was a chap called David Harris. He left to take over The Woodman in Well Street and was murdered when he was going to the bank with the pub’s takings. That was in 1984.

    The lift, referred to earlier in this thread, was operated by a strange individual who would squeak 'room for one only'. I never used it. They had a sandwich counter opposite the main bar. The salad sandwiches were excellent and, if you were lucky, you could get some of yesterday's soup tipped...

    Glad that you used my Dad's shop. He did sixty haircuts per day in his prime. You don't get that service now!
