I am now back from the Central Library and indeed, I was able to read and photograph the relevant Coroner's report. It showed that my great grandfather was knocked down by Tram car No 804 on the No 8 route from the City 20-30 yards before the Request Stop opposite the Reginald Road/Alum Rock...

Thanks to everyone who provided advice. I have confirmed that a coroner's file does exist in the Central Library in Birmingham and I'm off to view it next week.
