ITZATNA Arts are an emerging artist collective based in the Midlands that create intercultural collaborations between artists and diaspora communities between Mexico, Latin America, and the UK.
Founded by the father-son artist duo Alfredo Hau (Visual Artist, Writer & Professional Chef) and Sebas Hau (Live Artist, Theatre-Maker & Creative Producer), ITZATNA cultivates radical, decolonial, and cross-disciplinary approaches to creating cutting-edge projects that combine visual, community, culinary, and live art to create unique experiences for all ages.
Our recent projects in 2021-2022 have included: ‘Hanal Pixan: Food For All Souls’ (2021) an immersive dining experience inspired by Mexican Day of the Dead exploring life, death, and communal grief performed at The Edge in Digbeth, Birmingham. ‘Recipes of Resistance’ (2022) a four-week community arts workshop exploring food, hunger, activism, and community resistance funded by Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games at The GAP Arts Project in Birmingham, and ‘October Fiesta’ (2022) traditional Mexican storytelling and games about life, death, and the animal kingdom at Twycross Zoo for October half term, curated by OPUS Arts Events.
ITZATNA are a non-profit arts organization based in Birmingham/West Midlands (UK). We have presented projects in the UK and the EU, including Centrala (Birmingham), Friction Arts/The Edge (Birmingham), Coffin Works (Birmingham) Coventry Artspace, OPEN Ealing Arts Centre (London) ]performance s p a c e [ (London), Sarean Centro Cultural (Bilbao), and MeinBlau Galerie at Month of Performance Art (Berlin), among others.
