I am an art teacher at a South Birmingham school, as well as a poet. My debut collection 'This dress has pockets' was published by Birmingham based Verve Poetry Press in 2019. You might have seen me in the Nationwide advert last year!
I have always been very passionate about Birmingham history and the lives of Brummies throughout time.
I was a tour guide at the Back to Backs when I was 21 and I'm mostly interested in working class peoples' stories. This is what I explored when completing my Masters in Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham.
My newest project (although the themes have been running through my work since I started creating it as a teenager) is called 'Not To Scale'.
This is a project celebrating the lost voices and forgotten lives of the women of Birmingham throughout history. Because the daughters of this city deserve a spotlight!
I am joining this wonderful site to research particular places and people that I want to showcase through my work. I have a list of 40 women that I'm primarily planning on writing about, although there are already others cropping up through research that have taken me on a different route.
