    Nansen Road School

I went to Nansen, started the infants in 1960 and left in 1966. My favourite teacher was Mr. Hodgkinson, although he got me moved up a class because I was doing too well in his class.

Thornley & Knight Ltd Bordesley Green Rd

Hughes Biscuit Factory......my mom used to go over there on her lunch break and get some broken biscuits (thinking it would be a treat) and leave them in her bag all afternoon, by the time she left work at 7:45 they tasted delicously like Thornley & Knight.

    Hughes Family

Can I ask what Ct Ho means, I think Court House, but, that doesn't sound correct. I have ancestors who lived at 15 Ct Ho 2 Bissell Street, in 1891.

Chapel or Hall on Adderley Road ?

I used to walk past here a lot as a kid, 50's - 70's, I don't remember it ever being used as a chapel, a youth club at some time, I think. And, it always had that building in front attached to it.

    Old street pics..

Your pic of the Old Square reminds me of my boyfriend, I was so happy to see him walking past the mural, I ran up to him and jumped into his arms. We were going to get engaged on my birthday 1976, but, unfortunately he died two months before.

    Aston Hall

I went to one when I was about six or seven (1961- 62) with my Mom and Aunty and baby cousin - the line was very long, couldn't really figure out why we were standing in a long line with candles in our hands.

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

There's a tunnel from that pub, that goes under the road, across to my Aunty's house, No. 6 Ash Road, (No. 6 was knocked down to build a mosque). We were never allowed in the cellar as kids, but, we did one day sneak down there and found the locked entrance to the pub, a door with frosted glass...

    Ash Road, Saltley

Aunty Gwen made lovely teas. Band of Hope...was you there when, Edward, I think it was, brought 'Lola' in by the Kinks and Aunty Gwen banned us from playing it. We kept asking her why, and she wouldn't answer. Now I'm older I know why.

    Ash Road, Saltley

My Aunty Gwen and Uncle Arthur and cousins Mary and John, used to live in the house next door to the Post Office, until it was demolished to build a mosque. Although we were told that the buildings were being demolished to widen the road, because it was dangerous as there was no view around into...

Brummies who moved to the USA

I moved to West Hollywood in 1976, because my boyfriend was involved in the music industry working for Don Arden, (Sharon Osbourne's dad) as a sound engineer. My boyfriend also was a computer programmer and had been writing computer games -so, one day while talking to a guy in Radio Shack, he...
