I don't remember it at all - may have been after we'd left there. I remember a fire in a house further up the road towards Golden Hillock Road - it was to do with a parafin heater - everyone was OK and got out of the house from what I remember. There was a little shop nextdoor to our...

    Bolton Road, Bordesley

I lived at 393 Bolton Road before the houses were demolished in the early 1970's - while I lived there all the houses at the back had already been knocked down when I was living there and it was like a bombpeck area. If I remember correctly these houses were pulled down around 1974.

You could explore sites like these which explain about the Home Children & Families etc.. - lots of children and families emigrated to Australia, Canada, USA etc.. in the hunt for a better life etc.. there were lots of programmes where people signed up to emmigrate. These may be a starting...

    The Fair in Stechford!

John My Gt Grandparents were Knight's I am still researching these people. My Grandmother was Lily Knight born 1881 (she married William Clifton - I think they could have been cousins cause Cliftons & Knights come into my tree twice in same generation) - her father was John Knight born 1832...

    The Fair in Stechford!

I've got some circus/fairground/gypsy/travellers stuff in my tree too that I need to research soon. This site might have some info on it to help you - it's interesting reading in there about these trades and shows etc.. and the people in the trade...

    Gospel Lane

I do laugh when I think back to selling the golf balls back to the golfers (some cheek? ha ha ha) My parents would have gone mad had they known we did that ha ha BUT I suppose they had their money raising scams in their days too? I used to do a paper round from Perrins Post Office on Gospel...

My mum used to buy boxes of broken biscuits off the milkman I am sure (in the late 60's and 70's) we had a milkman called Dennis for years - and it was really weird cause when we moved house and then got doorstep delivery of milk etc.. we had same milkman again - it was like he moved with us...

    Gospel Oak, Acocks Green

What a shame this is - I used to know this area quite well during the late 1970's - it never seemed a bad area then at all - I have some very fond memories of this area. I'd bet they'll build on the site - if they've just redone the pub and trade has declined etc.. the land will be worth more...
