    Market Hall 1835 - 1963

    My Dad used to take us every Saturday in the early 1950's. He always bought a dish of jellied eels and dishes of cockles for my Mom and me. We loved them covered in vinegar!

    Barrows Stores

    I remember Barrows ..they sold fabulous cakes! My first job was a junior at Swears and Wells the fur coat shop just round the corner on Corporation Street. I was sent tl Barrows every day to get cakes for the senior sales ladies.

    Darwin Street

    Does anyone remember the corner shop at Darwin Street? We lived there for a couple of years from 1951. Thor Hammer had a factory at the end by the Park and Chandos Road. We had a wonderful street party for our Queen's Coronation.

    Upper Highgate School for Girls

    I went there from 1952-1956 and remember Miss Robertshaw so well...spent several occasions at a desk outside her office !!! She was very strict but fair. Miss Smith was our form tutor and was lovely and had a great sense of humour. Used to love playing Pirates in that old gym across the road at...

    Upper Highgate School for Girls

    I wonder if anyone remembers Highgate Sec Mod? I went there at 11 yrs in 1952. Miss Robertshaw was Headmistress and my form teacher Miss Smith. She was lovely and haf a wonderful sense of humour. We lived in Darwin Street for a couple of years, where my parents ran the corner shop.

    Bournville Schools

    I went to Bourneville Junior school early 1950's. Dame Elizabeth Cadbury, Govenor, came each month to speak to the school at morning assembly. My most vivid memory of that time was an overwhelming scent of chocolate whenever rain was due. Also the belltower and block, the lovely herringbone...
