    Guildford Street Lozells

How sad, never knew this history. Lived at 29/146 from 1963 - 1968 (until I was 11) and always wondered why there were garages / yard at the entrance where 144 & 142 would have been. Never questioned why and assumed houses opposite ours were also 'back of 146'.

Thornley & Knight Ltd Bordesley Green Rd

Anyone from T&K remember a Darryl Desont (probably spelt wrong) around early 1970's? Had a red Cortina Mk2 GT.

    Prestage Ltd

As you say Ryland St, at the bottom, showroom on the right, Bedford/CV workshop down the ramp, Vauxhall next door then Rydale (BMW) on the next corner. All linked. As an apprentice mechanic 73-75 did stint in all 3 w/shops although Vauxhall was my main place. Bill Evans and Brian Crawford ran...

    Commercial Vehicles

Freemans certainly had a milk delivery contract in '76/77. I worked as a driver/rep for Serck Services & called in daily to see if there were any radiators that needed repairing on their trucks.

    Hickman family

Interesting, info there I never knew. RAF is a surprise as I understand grandad served some time in India and was always referred to as in the army. 44 Rockford Rd was a new build purchase where Lillian & William lived for the rest of their lives and I lived there until I was 4. I am indeed...

    Hickman family

Wow, quick reply. Very little known about his family as I believe he left home at 15 and enlisted in the army. Glew as a family name rings a distant bell! Amazing, never knew. My mothers middle name is Florence, now I know why. It was believed that my grandad "ran away" from home and never...

    Hickman family

My maternal grandfather was William Edward Hickman, born late 1800's to early 1900's. Originally from either Streetly or Four Oaks. Married Lilian Clara Harvey around 1933 and lived in Great Barr. Any further details available?

    Yenton Garage , Erdington , Birmingham 23

In the mid 70's to 80's Yenton Garage was a Rootes/Chrysler/Talbot dealer with a showroom based where McDonalds is now, service dept. was in Goosemoor Ln. Both long gone.

    Chelmsley Wood.

No photo, but a little history - in 1975/75 it was owned by United Motor Sales and managed by Dennis Bick. Also Corrida S/Stn at Stechford was under the same ownership/management.

The same Mr Flaherty who, with his brother, owned most of Wharfdale Rd industrial units alongside the canal and truckstop (old BCHC yard I think)?

    S&U Stores, Edgbaston St, Bham, ..B5 4RB...

Interesting - in 1974 I purchased LRC 9D a grey Bedford HA van from an acquaintance at Sidwell & Jinks Garage in Bordesley Green, the previous owner in the log book was S&U Stores. Always wondered why it had factory fitted rear seats, perhaps because it was used by a travelling salesman?
