I grew up in South Africa to a Brummie mum. My mum, Freda Wigham, (d.o.b 31.3.1927) grew up in Pype Hayes Road, Erdington and went to Paget Road Infant School followed by Erdington Grammar School. After school she joined my Grandad, Dennis Wigham at Dunlop working in the laboratory. Dunlop asked for staff to volunteer to work in their laboratory in the colonies. My mum answered the call and went to South Africa on the S.S.Umgeni. She turned 21 during the boat trip. She stayed at the Y.M.C.A, later met my dad Dick Baldock and they married a couple of years later, hence my place of birth being South Africa. I’d love to find some relevant pictures, her schools, Pype Hayes Road, Erdington etc. I am completing a Grandparent book she started for my daughters but never finished. Thanks!
