    The Austin's aero industry in the 1940's

    My father should've gone into the RAF as a rear gunner in 1941, but he had a stomach ulcer so he did essential war work as a roofer and plumber, patching up bomb damaged buildings. He was also a Jazz trumpet player, and played with Alan Ayres Jazz Band who were the resident band at Birmingham...
