    Kalamazoo

Remember being i:):)nterviewed by this place, probably in about 1978 when computers started to spring up in houses. They sold office ledgers, book keeping stuff etc. I remember asking, " what's going to happen when all the stuff you sell is made obsolete by computers" I asked in somewhat more...

    N.H.S. Spectacle Frames / Glasses

NHS specs. Never much of an advert for the NHS. Styles about 30 years behind the times, poor quality. Thankfully the £25 budget ranges sold by many opticians are light years ahead of the old NHS frames.

    World War 1-Zeppelins over Birmingham

Interesting post. I didnt know that Birmingham had experienced Zeppelin raids.

    Sun ray treament

I can't post a link but typing the words "daily mail sun ray therapy" into Google lists an interesting article on the history of this treatment.

    Sun ray treament

Astonian, I did not personally experience sun ray treatment. I was just commenting on the thread because I was surprised that it was used as late as the 1960s and perhaps 1970s. I dont know how effective it was. Sunlight produces vitamin d so I guess if a person was low on this vitamin, the...

    Worst car of the 1960's

I saw a prog. on Ch5 last night " cars that made britain great" and some of the cars seemed to be real clunkers. Next Friday the prog. features, amongst others, the Hillman Imp.

    Council Housing

You make a good point Eric. Many people must have paid for their council houses several times over.

    Care Homes

Just read that average life expectancy in 1960 was 71. Now that people live much longer this will increase the tendency towards the situation Janice describes above.

    Council Housing

Due to the sale of council houses many of them have eventually ended up owned by private landlords. It is easy to find rented former council houses next door to houses still rented by the local council. I think we can guess which has the higher rent.

    Worst car of the 1960's

Just looking through the list of "worst cars" on this thread - - it's surprising the prices some of these cars now fetch! Hillman Imps are now now very expensive.

    Care Homes

Interesting thread. I guess the number of people living to advanced ages increases the need for care homes. Just looking at the obituary columns shows the number of people living into their 90's and older. One chain of card shops stocks a range of birthday cards for Folks aged 100. Like the...

    Council Housing

Looking through family histories of people in the Birmingham Area, it's easy to see how moving to council properties must have improved the living standards of many in this area. Some people moved from dreadful slums to quite pleasant council housing. When did council house building become a...

    Moor Street Warehouse

Re my earlier post. Just realized I may well have given a few of these hangers away when I took clothes around to the salvation army charity shop. Someone is still trying to sell one of them for £14 on an internet auction site. I could have had about £140 worth to sell! Still there is big...

    Moor Street Warehouse

I found one of these coat hangers in my wardrobe. I guess my mum must have bought an item of clothing in the moor st warehouse in the 1950's or later. It is quite roughly made and I guess it was free with an item of clothing. I notice that a couple of online sales sites are trying to sell them...
