    Birmingham Holiday Fortnight Shutdown

    The week before the shutdown was known as "pudding week", where factory workers on piece work would work that extra bit harder to make up for the fact they wouldn't get paid over the holiday bre\ak. This was the norm in the jewellery trade in Hockley.

    Just seen your message. I worked at B&N from around 1963-1966. Wonderful years, I was 17 years old and was taken on by Mr Trout. I think Mr Johnson was security. I worked in the haberdashery dept, where the first hand was Alan Terry, I don't remember who the buyer was. Mrs Smith and Mrs Mann...
