Hi Chris,
I'm just going through the process of digitising my dad and Grandad's photographic slides and, as there are 3 of the Kirkby factory during construction, an internet search brought me back to this thread. I can answer your question. After the war, my Grandad was transfered to the Metal...
Just to finish this thread/my journey off then, I visited my dad's house in Kensington Road on Saturday morning. Photo attached. We already knew it had been renovated/redeveloped but the other houses built at the same time still look as my dad's did in 1954. What a lovely place to live though...
You asked for it, so here it is. I used Filmbox to scan and colourise it. I have a vague idea of who she is, but only a first name. I guess some stories are destined to remain untold.
I had searched the phone books on ancestry, which I have used a lot, but this didn't come up. My dad's house in Streetly is there in the 1968 phone book, as is my Great Uncle Reg's. But this nails it.
Well done everyone indeed. I thought I was quite good at this research stuff, but this forum is next level. You've helped me locate a family grave and my dad's last house in Birmingham. Thank you.
I really wish I did have interior photographs, but those negatives are all we have. My Grandfather, Leonard George Cork, moved up to Liverpool a matter of 12-18 months after buying this house. He was offered the chance to build and run a factory for ICI in Kirkby. Dad moves schools from King...
The photograph was probably in reverse as I found the negatives at the bottom of a suitcase of dad's, along with one of a mystery woman in a bikini. That must be a whole other story I'll never get to know.
Good Morning,
I'm hopeful that the forum will be able to help me identify and locate the house pictured. My grandparents sold a nice semi-detached house in Plaistow Avenue, Birmingham B36, and moved to what my dad described as "an elegant and unusual detached house with grounds in an upmarket...
I just wanted to drop a note of thanks to everyone here as I had an extremely successful trip to Birmingham, tracing my dad's life from his birth in 1940 at Loveday Street to his final home in Streetly before he moved to Merseyside.
The best part of the day was finding the family grave in...
Hi,
Thank you for this, it's a great resource and has certainly helped. Whilst there was no record for 3 month old Malcolm Cork, I've found my Great Grandfather's record; Leonard Cork. I ordered that as a digital download and it appears to say the grave was re-opened. So I think it's a family...
Good Morning,
I've started researching my family's history in Birmingham and intend visiting next month for some primary research. Looking forward to that.
I have a birth certificate for an uncle who was born at 284 Chester Road, Birmingham in 1945. Can anyone tell me what the building was...
