Hi,
I have just found another Gt Uncle who sadly died in WW1.

William Henry Green, aged 21. Worcs Regiment 1st Battalion.
KIA 13/03/1915
His name is on the Le Touret Memorial.

William actually enlisted in 1912 so I assume that this means he was a
regular soldier. His next of kin lived in Butler street, Small Heath.

Any additional info on this young man will be much appreciated.

Margaret, I'm sure your Gt Uncle would have been killed at the battle of Neuve Chapelle, My father was in the battle and survived the war, you will find an excellent write up of what happened on this site.

Thank you Nick & Lloyd for your input.....the description of this battle made for chilling reading...William was only a titch, 5' 2" by all accounts.
There seems to be some doubt over when he died but sometime between
the 10th -- 13th March 1915. Evidently my Gtgrandmother wrote a note to the powers that be to return a "badge" that he always wore at his neck ( I doubt that she ever received it ) I believe he was found on the battlefield & buried 1 mile N/W of Neue Chapelle.....What a waste of a young mans life.
