With the memories of the "Titanic" sinking 100 years ago being revisited in documentaries at the moment, there are several connections to Birmingham and the Black Country regarding items made in the Midlands for use on the ship and the loss of businessman William Hipkins. His history in Birmingham is fascinating and
there are a few links regarding him. Although he was lost at sea and his body never found there is a memorial to him at Warstone Cemetery.
