What were these regiments?

claire-brum71

master brummie
On my Grandads WW2 record of service papers it say's he was in the G.S.C and H.L.I (I assume infantry), does anyone know what they were, thanks :)

Thanks Ray, he was also in the Camaronians so that ties in, my nans family were scottish, so maybe that's why he went into those regiments?

He was in the G.S.C then Oxford & Bucks then the H.L.I and then the Camaronians.

G.S.C is The General Service Corps so presumably he joined as an ordinary soldier but after a while he proved he had the potential to be an officer. Hope he made it!

General Service Corps,is a holding unit whilst awating a posting to a regt.Usually it is only operational during an emergency,he could have been a reservist before the war.

Thanks Ray, my grandad never talked about the war and nan said it was because he lost so many men and saw things he couldn't get over, he never collected his medals, so i'm now trying to work it all out from pictures and his record book that i found whilst sorting my late nans things last week. We found some brass plaques (i made a thread on them) and also cap badges we need to find out what they related to.

Ray, Your Statement is correct with the addition of the word "specialists" under all Queens Regulations since 1955. Prior to that "Army Order 19 of 1942" states - Quote- "To provide a 'selection pool' for prospective officers before posting them to appropriate arms and service".

claire-brum71, Contact The Veterans Agency UK type it into Google, they have Freephone Number and are very helpful, you may be able to get his medals, Good Luck in your search. Len.

Thanks Len, I will give them a try, it would be nice if we could get them, but if we can't, to just know what ones he would have had would be just as good :) I know nan had the information but it's been lost now :(
