  • HI folks the server that hosts the site completely died including the Hdd's and backups.
    Luckily i create an offsite backup once a week! this has now been restored so we have lost a few days posts.
    im still fixing things at the moment so bear with me and im still working on all images 90% are fine the others im working on now
    we are now using a backup solution

What do you watch on tv nowadays ?

i watch c.h.i.p.s. reminds me of my days on the motor ways. The stupid things people do while driving on them.:mad:

Well said, it seems that there are no standards taught in schools these days, I suppose they are all to busy being told that they can chose one of 21 gender definitions. My wife was a teacher and is appalled by the current tv and general way of life that currently exists. Sorry old and cynical and too many hobby horses.

I like Michael Portillo`s railway journeys, he`s very entertaining & is not afraid to look foolish. NCIS, The Good Doctor, Greys Anatomy, Chicago Med, A&E, Helicopter Medic, Aussie Gold Hunters. Not many good comedies around after The Big Bang Theory finished although Young Sheldon is pretty good.

Agree about Portillo and most of the rest. Seen one or two excellent programmes on BBC 4 recently, the problem with a lot of the other programmes is that the series seem to move from one channel to another Discovery to Quest etc. However it always puzzles me that the Gold Hunter, Explorer, DIY expert will run into trouble and the camera crew just film it and do nothing to help. With those set in Australia, I am always amazed that Skippy does not bound across the screen, identify the problem and then set off for Kalgoorlie to get help

Hi Lyn, you'll be a pal for life with Graham when I tell him. He'd watch them all the time if he could. I can hear him chuckling to himself.

When we're 'free'(not in lockdown) we go to a film club and one night they showed a Carry On film. I should think it was the worst one of the lot - 'Carry on Columbus'. It wasn't a patch on the earlier ones. Very few of the old stagers in it either.
(Very sad about Barbara Windsor's illness isn't it?)

Question about TV:

When I left Birmingham in November 1962 we had as I recall BBC and BBC2 plus 1 or two ITV stations by aerial/antennae. When I came to the US all stations were independent commercial and regionalized. In the NYC metro area for example there were 8 or 9 stations.

Currently most TV is via cable, or streaming or satellite and some aerials in metro areas. ROKU is becoming a large player that is how we get Acorn TV and Britbox.

How is it done in the UK, big cities vs rural areas, public vs private stations? Would appreciate ANY information.

Started watching the Secret History of Writing on BBC iPlayer. And very good it is too. Only watched first episode so far, but what a joy to see old script written by a very talented person. The first episode takes you through the production of writing materials from the Roman’s using Egyptian papyrus to the advantages gained in the production of mulberry hand made paper. Some useful observations along the way about how these developments advanced societies.

Not Brum related as such but an interesting addition to historical understanding. Viv.
 
That’s exactly how I remember it. Can see from this why Birmingham was criticised at the time. Viv.
 
Hi,

Just seen a notice that there has been a reallocation of channels on
Freeview on 4 November so if you wake up this morning and your
favourite channel is not there you will need a retune.

I understand that in a lot of cases the only effect you will notice will
be that the channel numbers in your TV mag won't match the ones
on the telly, but channels may be missing if they have changed multiplex.

i remember waking one morning in brum and not only the channels but the complete tv was not there.:mad:
 
I have just watched all the reruns of Peak Practice and decided I want to live in Cardale, the doctors will see you as soon as walk into the surgery , they do home visits , call an ambulance and come to the hospital with you and if in the future you need a hospital appointment they get it the same day.
Mind you they do have a large turnover of new doctors and some are just a bit promiscuous,lol.

Cardale,surgery is that the place in cuckoo land?
 
Cardale is in 'cuckoo land' but the setting is actually Crich in Derbyshire an area I love.
