Wainwright family lived in Lupin Street circa late 1800's and early 1900's. Seeking information on Zephaniah and Esther please.

Thanks

Thank you Chris. P

Before we go further back and end up researching the wrong family could you give a guide line on the probability of there being more than one Zephaniah WAINWRIGHT aged 8 born in Lupin Street circa 1873?

Ray

None other came up on the Census and it is an unusual name.
Couldn't find them in Birmingham in 1891 'cept for what may be George down as a 'Stepson' but of the right age (Can post it if you wish). If Zeph had died in 1886 them the family may have split up, or may be back in Stafford.
If as I think we have the right family here' a little more:
ZEPHANIAH WAINWRIGHT
Christening: 11 MAY 1845 Kingswinford And St. Marys Chapelry, Stafford, England
Parents:
Father: ZEPHANIAH WAINWRIGHT
Mother: ISABELLA

Thanks,

1881 census
Zephaniah WAINWRIGHT Head M Male born 1844 Stourbridge, Stafford

As we know Zephaniah his son was born in Lupin Street the 1881 census seems right.

1871 census
Zephaniah WAINWRIGHT Head M Male born 1845 Stourbridge, Worcestershire

The 1871 census seems right except for the age difference – 1844 opposed to 1845, should that be a concern?

1861 census
ZEPHANIAH WAINWRIGHT born 1845 in Kingswinford Staffordshire with Isabella Zephaniah parents.

Thus would we be correct in discounting the 1861 census due to 1845 rather than 1844 in 1881 census and perhaps more importantly Kingswinford rather than Stourbridge?

When you have an unusual name then a year either side is often of no account. Past recorders were not as meticulous as to day, due to the fact many working class folk were illiterate and often gave the closest age, or name spelling. e.g: if a child was almost 5 but not quite they would still say 5, as ages were often rounded up, so as the years passed ages varied in some cases.

As far as 'Areas' are concerned these often also changed as 'Boundaries were moved e,g: in the late 1800's you will find many parts Birmingham that are now under Warwickshire were at that time in Staffordshire. Also places like Aston and Kings Norton were independent from Birmingham , but in later years became amalgamated in to the City of Birmingham.

Hope this helps:cool:

Thank you pom, :) we will put our thinking caps on, if we can find them and seek the best way forward.

With regards errors on my side (King) I've noted age error on marriage certificate of grandparents 1914 and name error on death certificate of 1983 so researches in the future could also hit snags.
