  • HI folks the server that hosts the site completely died including the Hdd's and backups.
    Luckily i create an offsite backup once a week! this has now been restored so we have lost a few days posts.
    im still fixing things at the moment so bear with me and im still working on all images 90% are fine the others im working on now
    we are now using a backup solution

Upper Thomas Street School Aston

I lived on Upper Sutton street and I went to Upper Thomas school, my teacher was Mr Sears he was a lovely teacher, I remember a Mr Hoffman, Mrs Truman? childhood friend was Pat Quigley who lived on Upper Thomas street I think Pat had a sister called Josephine?, Carol Ali lived on Upper Sutton Street? Barbara Strachen? Barbara Babbington? Gail? Elaine?. Boys I remembered was Desmond Chambers, Barry Elliston, Curtis Stapleton, Paul Gaskin?

Paul gaskin was my best friends younger brother we was brought up together at Lichfield ,rd
And there mother was Sammy and ireneie gaskin my friend whom was is older brother was Colin we both joined the forces together
He followed his father into the tank company k was in the 1 st Battilion of the Royal Waricks

They moved out of Cromwell terrace up to tower road loved to know where they moved from tower rdhe had two sisters as well they both
Worked at HP Sauce In those Days IF anybody knows of there where about I would sincerely love to hear from them

3 photos of the kids of upper thomas st school...the football team is dated 1965/66 and i would think the other 2 are about the same date...wonder if any of our members are on them..thanks to gingerjon for sending them to me..

Hi this may be a long shot would one remember the Roberts family who lived at 64 Upper Thomas Street & 72 Tintern Road.

I never attended Upper Thomas Street School but I do remember that in the 60s it had a great reputation for boxing.

I attended UTSS from 1948 to 1958, Mr York was head then, I recall the school starting a house system Perry- Hill- Ogden- Holt. I think in memory of Mr Hill.
Mr Hurford, Gillard, Powel, Ellery, are a few teachers there then.
I remember the school preps for the Queens coronation, also us all sitting in the hall and watching a film about Hillary and Hunts success on Mount Everest, in later years I became a mountain guide/instructor running my own outdoor pursuits company, then working for University of Wales overseeing a degree course in outdoor ed, I'm sure that film sparked the interest that lead me to climb around the globe. Good old UTSS.
 
HI, I don,t think you have the right address in U.T.S, Starting at No. 74 Mullins, No. 72 (shop) Robinsons No.70 Shaws No.68 Freemans No. 66 Fords No.64 Phillips No 62? (SHOP) Boswells later Gardeners (Robert) No 62 Tamplins
These families lived at these addresses from early 40s until they the properties were demolished .
Perhaps the address was 64 Thomas St. Number 64 U.T.S would have been opposite U.T.S School.
 
found this one in our box of family photo's I am the guy front left the only one other I can name is the chap next to me Roy Haynes ? take at Upper Thomas St Senior School when Mr York was the Headmaster.
Anyone know others on here ?

My wife started her teaching career at Upper Thomas Street in 1958 she was Miss Hobbs then, but we married and she left in 1962 as Mrs Davis, she had some interesting times there with the girls swimming and the school outings.

hi folks i have on loan the original admission register for upper thomas st infant boys school..found in a bin wagon when the school was demolished..admissions start from 1921 to 1944 and give information of those who left the school and for what reason and where they were evacuated to during ww2 also those who ended up in various homes it also states their home addresses and if they died while attending this school the cause of death so very useful info....if anyone had rellies who went to this school i am quite happy to look through it to try and find their names and take a photo of the page..cant scan it as the book is too large...not had time to trawl through it properly but i dont think i had anyone at this school

OOh yes please, Lyn. My Dad was John Frederick Partridge,(Jack) born 1920 and I know he went to Upper Thomas Street, but that's all I know....

Me too Lady P, my mom was born 1909, dad 1906 and both I believe went to Upper Thomas Street School, all a bit before most of the posts on here.
Mom's family lived in Tower Road and Dad's in Barton's Bank (not sure of Dad's dates in Barton's Bank)
 
hi mary i have double checked the infant intakes from 1924 to 1930 just in case your dad started at another school and moved to UTS before he reached junior but hes not listed..this register is only for infants so maybe he didnt attend the infant part of the school he could have just been in the juniors...i have however found a reginald partridge born 18.3.1925 who started infants on 24.3.1930 address is 52 upper sutton st parent or guardian thomas..maybe reginald is your dads brother?? ps i will check again though

hi pen the register is only for boys who were at UTS during their infant years

Righto thanks Lyn. Didn't read it closely just got excited! Mom was too early and wrong sex - only the school was right!

hi pen i will be searching for the earliest year a child could have started and the latest year...folk moved around a lot in those days (usually to avoid the rent man lol) and kids changed schools..your mom was born in 1912 so at a guess she would have started infants about 1916/17 but she could easily have switched schools and spent her last year or so of infants 1921/22 at upper thomas if you get my meaning..just giving an example
