This is not a Birmingham City FC related thread. I am after a couple of good pictures of Tilton Road before it was all demolished showing the old Terraced houses or the various terraces. Even if its got Auntie Mabel in it or Uncle Alf in it.

can any Forum member help please?

Thanks

Terry

Thanks Pollypops.

Wal. No I am not from Sandy Lane and never went to that school either.

I was raised at Lea Village then Tile Cross then Chelmsley Wood and now live at Castle Brom.
My mom's side of the family came from Talfourd Street and Greenway Street. Their surname was Witsey.
My dad was born in Armoury Road. And that as they say is my life story in a nutshell!!!!

Regards
Terry

I think it's the 60s Derek but it's an outdoor the only pub I remember there was the George on the corner of Garrison Lane

Thanks very much Bernie...I remember the George..there was also the Atlas on the junction of Garrison lane and Cattell Road if I remember right.

Here is another question for you Tilton Road experts...... Did Tilton Road School have a Roll of Honour of former pupils that served in WW1 and would it still be there?

Terry

Hi Terry I am certainly not an expert but the school in the pic is ajunior school , there was a senior school but it was girls only in the 50s and 60s . I think most of the local lads went to Ada Road , though I'm sure to be proven wrong . I have seen pics of rolls of honour for some streets around Small Heath but not Tilton Road and I had better add that women must also have served in the war

Can i ask another question please. Were the houses in Tilton Road "back to back" or the "tunnel back houses"

Terry

Following on from the questions Terry Carter has been asking concerning Tilton Road, I was very interested to see the photos of that road. My grandmother was living in School House, Tilton Road, when she married my grandfather in December 1920. Her father worked at a number of schools during his life, including Tilton Road. He had various jobs, including as a yardsman at an industrial school, which I understand was a sort of borstal for boys. When he retired, he and his wife had a presentation from the council, to thank him and his wife for their valued service. He had been a janitor and also taught woodwork. He had started out in his working life in the gun manufacturing industry, but I don't know why he left and started working in schools.
