The Shelter Book ("A Gathering of Tales, Poems, Esays, Notes and Notions Arranged By Clemence Dane for Use in Shelters, Tubes, Basements and Cellars in War-Time") was published in 1940. Its purpose was clearly to provide entertainment and some form of distraction to those sheltering from the onslaught coming from the skies.
The book also contained a couple of pages which could be filled in by the owner to record, for ready reference, some key information about his or her life.
A copy of this book has come into the possession of a collector who is happy to share the information with Forum members. His copy belonged to a Smethwick lady who dutifully recorded important information of her family - where she lived, the names and addresses of those closest to her, the name and location of her Army husband, details of her "servants", nearest first aid post etc., etc.
It would be interesting to know if any part of this information rings any bells amongst Forum members.
