The Night Out, Holloway Head

I spent some enjoyable times at the Night Out in the late 60s and early 70s. From what I can remember, it used to be free entry on a Sunday night. There were acts like Roger Whittacker, The Rockin' Berries and the very talented Roy Castle, amongst many others.

I can even remember going once to see The Topless Ladybirds. They were an all girl rock band who performed, errr topless. My fiancee came with me and she's been my wife for almost 40 years, so they can't have been that bad.

There was a casino there as well, but I never used it. Too worried about losing my money!

We used to go to the Night Out in the early 80s. I think they opened about 8 pm. you had your meal(it was realy good grub) and the main caberet started about 11.
Some of the acts we saw over the years were Brenda Lee,Norman Wisdom,The Grumbleweeds,Tony Christie,Vince Hill,Cannon & Ball and when my daughter got engaged we saw Hot Chocolate.
The place realy was a good night out.

I had my first Black Russian at the Night Out,when I went to see The Drifters there!! (Black Russian as in THE DRINK!!!)
Remember seeing Mungo Jerry at La Dolce Vita and went to see Tony Christie at Rebeccas with the wrestlers from Digbeth Civic Hall!!

Myself and my husband went to The Night- Out to see Blue Mink with lead singer Madeline Bell as i remember it was a lovely evening and i always thought quite a classy place

We went to the Night Out to see Showaddywaddy - it was a great place, nice atmosphere and you could get nice food. What a shame it closed down.

Hot Chocolate

On one visit we shared a table with Michelle Newman ex Central News presenter and her friend Martin Jenks.

The compare was a guy called Graham ???????????

Great memories of the Night Out. Treated my girlfriend to a nice meal and The Three Degrees in 1977. I remember they used to come around to the tables and ask if you wanted photographs taken.

They certainly did Paul. Here’s my mum and aunt enjoying a night out at the Night Out. Not sure of the date but I guess the 1970s. My aunt was over on a visit from California. I expect she was probably very impressed with the club. Don’t know who was on the show. Viv.

I used to go there in the mid/late 70's and that food there eating looks like the familiar nigh out meal. Meat with potato croquettes, mixed veg.

I can't remember the exact year but I know Ben E King rejoined the Drifters in 1982 and then split with the band for the second time in 1986 - so it was between then. I was the one who went to the toilet at the wrong time and ended up on the stage with them doing the 'Drifters' stroll/dance - whatever you call it. Does anyone have any pics from the event?

Went to see Tommy Cooper with some lads from work not very good that night . Might of mentioned it before but still loved Tommy Cooper. We all have an off day. My mate saw him at the Cresta Club and said he was brilliant.
