The Malthouse, Stoney Lane

Heartland

Associated with brewing were the often separate Malthouse buildings, where barley was converted to malt for brewing.

The attached image shows a malthouse converted into a garage, but the buildings age is consistent with the previous task of producing malt.

The group of buildings were constructed in the form of an L with one side along the original Stoney Lane and is show on the 1885 Ordnance Survey, published in 1888.

Stoney Lane was then a narrow road, whilst the Malthouse was near the "Old Ring of Bells Inn" at Yardley Village.
