I’ve recently come across the Internet Archive https://www.archive.org/index.php, a vast store of all sorts of media, including books. I ran a search for Birmingham and (amongst Birmingham Alabama, authors named Birmingham, books published in Birmingham) found the following books about Birmingham. They are mostly available to download, but a good way of viewing is by flipping the pages as you would and ordinary book, and if you bookmark the page you don’t need to store it on your own computer. A great resource!

Have a look at this interesting site
Grace's Guide, the best of British engineering 1750-1960s - https://www.gracesguide.co.uk/wiki/Main_Page 'the most comprehensive source of information on the engineering industry in Britain between 1750 (the start of the Industrial Revolution) and the 1960s.
This web publication contains around 31,000 pages of information and 21,000 images on early companies, their products and the people who designed and built them. Additions are being made to the information on a daily basis.
The project is entirely non-profit making and contributions are from volunteers.'
