The Hope And Anchor, Charlotte Street, Birmingham

Anyone know about the Hope and Anchor at 13, Charlotte Street? My Great, great grandmother Ann Stinton worked there as a servant when she was 18 years old under a George Draycott (born circa. 1850).

The information is on the 1901 census although the pub is not mentioned specifically on this, it is listed in Kelly's Directories 1902-03.

A photograph, map or any other info would be great!

The Hope and Anchor was on the corner of Holland St as shown in red on the map below. It disappeared from Kellys between the 1915 and 1921 editions. It is listed as that from at least the 1845 directory, but before the early 1840s it appears to be listed as being in Holland St (it was on the corner). Joseph Jerome is the landlord of a pub of that name in the 1845 directory in Charlotte St, and also in newspaper reports at pub of that name in Holland St in 1842. the first mention of the pub in the online newspaper archives is in 1833, when Joseph's wife dies. The pub is reported as having been used for inquests (as were many at that time) and around 1847 the Union Boat Co was started at the pub while the landlord was John Hanks(I believe this was a combination of independent canal boat owners). at this time at least one sale of fly boats occurred at the pub.
