The Hill of Belfore

The Hill of Belfore presented us a most affordable view
In as much as it took but half an hour to make our climb.
And as we stood with easing breathe and dampened brow,
We scanned familiar scenes though eyes saw them anew
All that lay before us in patch worked green and brown,
Where in another season of each renewed and blessed year
Our eyes have oft beheld the miracles of changing patterns,
Where in wisdom the farm labourer had other crops sown.
And to our sight bright the field painted with flowering Rape
Scarce did our eyes behold aught else but its bright yellow.
Buttercups and Daffodils, Colts Foot and Marsh Marigold
Could not match the summer woven to color a maidens cape.

In the noondays light we took our ease
And left to our memory sites that please.
Patched worked fields and Morgans Mill,
Stitched in our minds atop Belfores Hill.

Thank you Rupert, your remarks are most generous.
