Does anyone know the exact date this part of the film Take me High
was made , I do know it was 1973 because I was working in Hockley
at the time .....Maybe you were there in the crowds or was anyone
of you were working near by as they filmed it .
Thank you . ragga :)

Thank you Alf & Wendy for trying , its just that i have a pal and
he insist that it was filmed in 1972 which I just know
it was 1973.

Here you go Ragga! Richie to the rescue!

Picture number 1 is the press ad for the film, with Boxing Day,26 December being in 1973, hence the "start 1974" slogan. The filming was done that same year previously.

A bonus for you in the second photo, with Cliff Richard attending the Birmingham premiere at the ABC Bristol Road Cinema some two weeks later.

Maybe can post a few mini-articles, but you might need a microscope to read them:)

Cheer Richie  that some brilliant bit of info you found for me of which
ive never seen before ...... what surprise me a little is that George Cole
who starred in the film was not present to the premiere at the ABC ,
Well it didnt say anyway .
Thank you once again Richie ..

RAGGA :)

The photo article is a bit misleading when it says "divert attention from the West End". This film never saw the West End but was released in the North London and then South London ABC areas only on this mentioned Boxing Day 1973 and automatically so to the provinces.

Cliff's previous film in 1967 was called "Two a Penny" and saw a damp squid premiere at the Prince Charles cinema off Leicester Square in that year. He played a drug dealer and maybe "Take me High" was intended as a correction to that less than heavenly personality.

Reading between the lines of film journals of those days the film world was very cautious about a comeback hence the apprehension about giving the film a West End showcase.

My dad was actually in one of the brass bands taking part in the marching scenes through the city centre, then from memory some filming at the Hawthorns or Villa Park. I'll try and find out during the week exactly when those scenes were shot.

Sorry I got my facts wrong! The film dad had a very small appearance in was called Privelege and was filmed at the Blues ground - apparently subsequently banned from being shown in B'ham cinemas!

I was actually there, walking on the left side of 'Sir Cliff's' car, proud to have been in the old Birmingham City Police Force as the parade went around New Street and up Corporation Street.

The lad's from Ladywood Police Station 'C2' were the ones given the job of 'escorting' the car around the town, having watched the You Tube clip, I could recognise myself, but also another regular member of this site 'Frantic' in Australia and I haven't seen him for many years!!!

A nice day out in the town, all those years ago in 1973. Cliff wasn't that 'BIG' then and no one really thought anything of it, today well, even my wife would in New Street waving!!!!

'You can take the lad out of Brum, but you can't take Brum out the lad.'

I can recall having to go into town to sign some legal documents for our house purchase....and that was early May 1973 and Cliff was sitting in a small motorhome with various people looking after him and his facial make up.........that motorhome was parked at the very end of waterloo street near to Victoria Square.....where some of the shooting was taking place outside the council house
