hi folks...well at last i have had the time to repost the pics of all the pubs that were on the lane:):)the red lion that was on the corner of bridge st west and summer lane was demolished in the early 1920s and so far a pic of this pub has never been found...the police station now stands on the ground where it was...

there only only 3 of these pubs still standing...the royal george..the barrel and the stags head.....the george and the barrel have been close for a few years now with no sign of them reopening.....this leaves the stags head which is the only pub down summer lane still pulling pints...

first the map pinpointing where the pubs were situated...

Well done Lyn, that took some doing. Now here is your next task. How many had their address's on summer lanelol

Fabulous collection there Lyn. Pity about one missing, but give it time. Someone whos probably not even a member yet is out there with just that picture. Great result for a lot of work.

Re: summer lane pub

Well done Lyn.It's just occured to me I only ever used the ones that sold Ansells,:)how fussy we used to be about that.:rolleyes:As a point of interest, the pub closest to Ansells brewery, was The Royal George, and it was a M&Bs house, must have passed it a million times and never went in.

Re: summer lane pub

FROTH....GOT IT IN ONE.. BUT SETTING THAT ASIDE AND IF YOU READ FOLKS STORIES AND MEMORIES OF THE LANE THERE WAS ALWAYS A GOOD SENSE OF COMMUNITY THERE WHEN PUSH CAME TO SHOVE..EVEN IF THERE WERE PUNCH UPS MOST NIGHTS:D

oh yes ray..i see it now..i was getting me royal georges mixed up:Di do that a lot with pubs...

Hi Lyn: You have done a great job identifying all the pubs on Summer Lane. Did any area in Birmingham have more pubs in one stretch
of road? I used to go on the bus to school in town in the early l950's and remember seeing all the pubs in Summer Lane. I worked in New John Street West for a year at John Wilson's (Wholesale Grocers) so I had a lot of time to look over these pubs on the way to and from work. The licensing hours were much shorter in those days, of course. Was it 11 until 3:00pm and then open at 6:00 until 11:00pm. Were the hours all the same or different for some pubs. Just curious.
