Incidentally a fellow choirboy at the time was Stevie Winwood, who went on to achieve fame in the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith, the latter group including Eric Clapton.

Hi Nick,
Re St John’s Church Perry Barr

wow, one of my musical heroes!! I used to regularly see The Spencer Davies Group when they were the resident band at The Students Union at Birmingham University in the 1960's. Stevie Winwood had (and has) the best blues voice I have ever heard in a white man. I have the cd of him and Clapton performing in New York a couple of years ago, and he's as good as ever. We went to see Spencer Davies play with The New Animals at Tamworth Assembly Rooms about three years ago, and he's also as good as he ever was. I think I saw every band that Clapton played in, with the exception of Blind Faith and Delaney & Bonnie.

Sorry to go off-thread.

Big Gee
