thanks stars.the shed with the bike outside next to the fence become my brothers printing shop.

You really are a star!
The launderette in Station road brings back memories for me. As a Stechford Primary School pupil in the late 50s one of my jobs was to take the family wash in my dolls' push chair to the launderette after school once a week, supervise the washing in the machine and push it home again. Happy memories.

Is,nt that strange The Cock & Bull I must have been past that pub a 1000 times.I always knew it as The Glebe.Dek

Brilliant pics Eric, know Stechford & glebe farm well from '66 throu to the '70's.

Was by there recently and lookingbat the shell of the Baptist Church opposite Lathams - Burnt out & derelict.

Very run down now in comparison.

Hi Brian
Yes i know i was up that way myself not long ago, i had family up the village.

Regard Stars (Eric)

Stars what great pictures having walked all over those streets and used the shops it brought back memories from my days growing up in Eddish Road. I never knew the pup was called the Cock and Bull I always thought it was the Glebe Tavern. Like they say you learn something new every day.

I remember this area well from my courting days, my late wife Enid Turville lived in Howden Place, we went to the Atlas Cinema sometimes twice a week.
Have not been back since Enids Dad died in 1975. Bernard

What brilliant photos of the Glebe area, Enid and her brother, sadly no longer with
us, would have loved them. The pub used to be the Glebe Hotel, dont know when
they changed the name. Have been in there many times with Horace, Enids Dad.
he was a big friend of Harry Pym manager at Gouldings the Chemist.Your pics really do bring back the memories, Thanks a Lot, Bernard

Very sad about the Glebe church and surronding area , my late inlaws Mr & Mrs Wallbank where amounst the founders off that church , they would be hearbroken to see it now , i am glad they didnt live to see it . We where marrried ther in 1980 and as where my husband sister and brother before us , I lived in Elmore rd , my husband in Flaxley rd so all the above pictures where great memories for us , many thanks does anyone remmeber the wallbank family from flaxley rd , where well known in the baptist church .

Hi Annette,

I attended Glebe Farm from late 1966 through to 1973'ish.
I was in the 27th Boys Brigade with Brian Wallbank. My younger Brother also went through the ranks, and my father helped at bit later on. My Sisters were in the Girls Brigade there. I knew Mr & Mrs Wallbank, they were a very nice couple who put a lot into the Church.
My sister also married at the church - nice place, very friendly people. Good Harvest Festival do's and very Xmas we tramped the area carol singing, lugging a semi portable organ with us!
When my sister married - she had John Davis cionduct the service - he hasd been a member of the church but had become a Minister himself. His Parents lived in Hodge Hill and they used to hold youth meetings in their house ther - another good couple.

Ron & June Carter used to run the Boys & Girls Brigades, very helpful when you were in need. later Albert green took over after marrying Evelyn Wren, but I think they moved to Redditch?

They used to share Ministers with Stechford baptist church. We had my dad's funeral service at Stechford, a couple of years ago. The Minister than was a canadian who who nothing of the Glebe farm connection.

Didn't Brian have an elder Sister - was she called Ann?

Hope they are doing well. I suppose all the those original founders have long gone now - As you say - it's better thay did not see it in it's derelict state.
Brian

Hi Brian

photo is fab !! Brian said he knows you and i also remember your Dad , i have emailed you about the news of the wallbank family !! I might see if i can get any pics on here off the church ,

Hi Annette, Pleased that brian is doing OK. No email though? If having difficulties, you can always use [email protected] - it's a leftover from the old website - I'm the only recipient now.

Hi Silver Fox, We lived between Stechford & Lea Hall Stns. My dad was in the Civil Defence, they were trained for First aid & rescue, and he helped in the aftermath.

I miss the old station that was on the road bridge with the lovely wide wooden steps down to the platforms - Similar to Acocks Green, Castle Bromwich, Water Orton, etc. Very disapointed when they built the little brick box round the corner!

Hi Brian

sorry that you didnt get email so here it is lol !

We now live on the isle of wight and love it here . We have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren . I am a nurse here and Brian did drive the buses in Birmingham and here but now works part time as a pharmacy porter at the same place as me . His Brother Malcolm sadly passed away last year age 68 it was awfull and Brian took it really hard , but untill then he lived in Flaxlery rd , Malcolms wife died 6 years ago age 60 so there children have had it real rough .

The sister is called Barabara she married Delwyn , they had 4 children and are also grandparents , they still live in Stud Lane .

Ron & janet Carter live in Malvern we still hear from them , Janet is in poor health .

I think i saw your Dad ( Mr Southwell ) last on the ward i worked on in heartlands about 7/8 years ago , i have feeling he was visting someone , not a patient himself ! Was sorry to hear he passed on , a few weeks ago we where reminising and talked about your Dad . Brian reconised the photo you put on , was it your sister Annette wedding , he thinks it is

Yes the Glebe has Really changed , my Mom and sister still live around there and everytime we visit it breaks our hearts looking at the church , like i said i so glad my dear beloved inlaws didnt see it

Any way all for now

Take Care
Annette

Hi Annette,
Unsure what email address you used - never mind!
It was Annette's wedding I posted - only got the pic off her last week for the Family Tree!
Sorry about Malcolm, it's never good a time for anyone. I bet he and Barbara really notice the decline in the area - really sad around the Glebe nowadays.
Mum died Nov 89, and Dad remarried in 1991 to a widow, but she had a sever stroke - probably when you saw him. She had to go into a Nursing home, Very little movement in 1 arm, even less speech, otherwise bed ridden - dad visted every day until having to go into a retirement home himself (not the same home). I took him across every weekend until she passed away in Jun 2008, and he followed just before Xmas the same year.
He enjoyed the little help he did with Boys Brigade, and was proud of his service in the Civil Defence - he helped at the Stechford train Crash amongst others.
You'll have to dig out your wedding pics and post it - hope the lawn had been cut for yours - it's looking a bit ragged in the post above!
Glad you are a member and can keep up with things in Brum, even though you are now technically abroad!

Regards to Ron & June - they may remember us. Ron was a good help to Alan Hayward when he had problems in the Army, some years after being the BB - it was appreciated at the time (another name long lost touch with!)

Thank you so much for those pictures! Such memories!! Do you have any photographs of the Lea Hall Tavern, or............even...... Lea Hall ITSELF!!!!! That would be really wonderful wouldn't it? Also, does anyone have a photograph of the actual Glebe Farm. I remember seeing a picture years ago at the museum in town. It had a Ford Popular parked there.

Hi,
A distant Pedlingham ancestor of mine had a Post Office / tobacconists on Station Road, according to a Trade Directory of 1921. Would anyone be able to pinpoint where about it would have been please. I usually use the Old Maps site to locate places, but they seem to have done away with the old Zoom facility recently and I can't see the maps as well as I used to be able to.
All help will be most appreciated.
