Before being knocked down the off licence became Sheldon Florence.
It should have read Sheldon Florist.
When I left school I went to work at Hulls the ironmongers on the Radley', Roger worked at the butchers a few doors up.
One my jobs was burn the rubbish in the car park behind the shop, one day we were talking as I was throwing rubbish on the fire, when there was a almighty bang from the fire and scattered the rubbish everywhere , we both fell about laughing.
It seems there was an empty aerosol in the rubbish.
It's the sort of thing you do when you are young and stupid...
,
Oh yes we have all done daft things when we were young. I remember going with a gang of kids down the large drain that threads through sheldon country park in the 1960's and under the road to the other side of the coventry road! How lucky there wasn't a flash flood ! My parents would have "killed" me if they knew! We thought it was fun!
Hi James
Its where the brook goes under the Coventry rd near to where the Sheldon cinema was.
Wendylee, whereabouts was this? The only water course I can recall is Westley brook , I can't remember any large drains.
Of course I know it now. Located in an area we all called "The Baggies" when we were kids. Is that now part of Sheldon Country Park? I thought the Country Park was the old King George V playing fields, hence the confusion.
I remember the area known by us kids as the baggies in the late 50s, why was it called that?
Went fishing in the pond to catch newts. Not legal now.
It was a great play area with the pond, lots of bushes and trees. Not manicured like it is now.
I had an uncle and aunt whose house was in Barrows Lane next door to the T.A. centre. When visiting from another part of Sheldon I would often play on the Baggies with my cousin and his friends. I remember the pond which as far as I can recall was always covered in duckweed so it looked bright green. Left to grow wild it was a great place for kids to play.I remember the area known by us kids as the baggies in the late 50s, why was it called that?
