If you find a modern postcode for the approximate area and then go to this site https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/ you can input the postcode and will get a modern map with a choice of old maps on the left hand side. The oldest is about 1884. You do not need to subscribe to the site but will only get limited enlargement.
