Rover Racing Cyclist's Club

These photos may be of interest to you. letter is from The Rover RCC to Mrs Hodgetts. Mrs Hodgetts, I believe, was the wife of Dennis who was the son of the Aston Villa Player Dennis Hodgetts Snr that played many times for Villa including their very first League game.
The other photo shows a Birmingham Cycling Club from 1904 with Dennis Hodgetts Jnr far left under the X.

FRED BOOKER was a member of the Rover, a true gentleman. I also remember Jake Wheatley..

from Wiki

Frederick James Booker (1944–2006), was a male cyclist who competed for England.

Cycling career

He represented England and won a silver medal in the 1,000 metres match sprint, at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica. He also competed and finished fourth in the 1 Km time trial event.

He was a four times national champion and rode for the Birmingham Rover Racing Cycling Club.

My brother Ed Copsey was a jeweller and had a die made for the Rover Cycle Club which was used to stamp the medals for the cllub members who won one, i don`t think its members had to work for the Rover Company, my other bro Albert raced at the Butts Stadium, Coventry, this was after the end of WW2.
Raced a lot at Butts great fun

I've just noticed the rider on the far right in the cyclist photo is one of my ancestors Vic Johnson.

Here's a photo of Dennis Hodgetts and Vic Johnson together a few years later.

The Rover Racing Cycling Club predates the date mentioned in the thread about the die being made. A medal surfaced on ebay with an inscription dated 1919. The die remained with Edlin Copsey who worked in the jewellery Quarter before passing on to his brother and myself. It is now in my possession. The impression is worn so it must have been used many times. Roy Copsey
