Saw this 1920s postcard, but had never heard of this person. Not born in Birmingham but obviously played a key part in the Birmingham Quakers. Viv

“James Rendel Harris (1852-1941). Harris was a scholar of early Christian literature and wrote extensively on the New Testament, the Fathers, folklore, and spirituality. He also collected many ancient manuscripts in the Near East. Harris played a significant role in British religious life, in particular as a leader of the liberal Quakers and as the first director of Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre, Birmingham”. (From Falsetto’s James Rendel Harris: A Life on the Quest).
