Apparently The Sentinel evolved into a "Gentlemen's Club" though why anybody patronising such a place should be classified as a gentleman is a mystery to me.
I did take a photo of The Gladiator sign before the pub closed down. You can view it at : https://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/birmingham/high-street-aston/royal-exchange.htm#Gladiator-Inn-SignHaven't had much time this week and was going to guess at the obvious, the Centurion or the Gladiator until your clue blew everything out of the window lol
My thoughts too. The only non-corner pub I could find was the Royal Oak!We don't know what the name was. Please put us out of our misery! I never saw anywhere numbered 59 and thought they may have renumbered.
The Gate Tavern, and a Google search or newspaper search revealed the name and even the auction. But good luck with today's quiz, I simply haven't got a clue!
