Princess Royal Pub, 292 Victoria Rd, Aston

Hi back in 2009, I posted asking if anyone had any memories of my grandparents pub. Just thought I’d try again

Does anyone remember the Princess Royal Pub, 292 Victoria Rd Aston, My Grandparents Fred and Lil Cross ran this pub between 1958-1964 approx. We cannot find any info or photo's on the pub and would be grateful for any information.
 
hello tattyhead i have not heard of this pub but will do a search for any photos of it for you...hopefully some of our members can supply you with a bit more info about the pub and maybe a map showing where it was in victoria road

thanks for the map mike...pub long gone along with that part of victoria road and upper thomas st....sadly i dont have a photo of the pub but maybe others maybe able to help

Am compiling a list of landlords and it is a bit complicated as there is a cutting of 1864 mentioning the pub in Victoria Rd, but later it is described as being in upper Thomas st, but in 1903 absorbs the next house in Victoria road (probably with rebuild) and is then listed in Victoria road
 
thats very kind of you mike i know how time consuming this can be...meanwhile i have asked a couple of contacts if they have any photos of this pub...fingers crossed

Thanks all, I know that like most pubs of that era it had a bar and a snug it also had a small off licence attached. Mom said it was 3 story, but the top floor was never used.
 
Cannot find it in directories before 1872, though there is a notice for a tenant/sale in the papers in nov.1863.



1872-1876 Taylor, John James (the pub was put up for sale in march 1876 and Taylor, as tenant, was then paying a rent of £26)

Between the 1883 & 1884 directories the pub was changed from 292 Victoria Road to 127 Upper Thomas St

1888 Alexander, William Whiteway (Made bankrupt 1889 after he had left this pub)

Between the 1903 & 1904 directories the address changed to 292 Victoria Road from 127 Upper Thomas St. This appears to have occurred by the original site absorbing the next house on Victoria St (no 292), which in the 1903 directory is listed as being occupied by Mr Allen, renumbering the bnuilding as being in Victoria St, probably this occurring with a rebuild.

That’s amazing Mom was undecided on the year they moved in, but 1956 sounds right as the previous landlord was Mr Weston.

You man the corners of upper thomas St with victoria Road?. According to the 1950 Kellys, the above mentioned Princess royal was the only one
