I was amazed not to see any posts on this event, maybe I did not search correctly.......

I was near Chester Rd and saw that the roads nearby had been closed off and that there were helicopters
flying above. I thought there had been a road accident or serious incident as this road was closed off a short while ago due to a murder investigation.

I was looking up at the Police helicopters when I heard a big cheer and turned to see a cavalcade of vehicles pass by, with the leading car carrying His Holiness.

The coverage of the Pope's visit to Birmingham has been very low. I was hoping to see more TV Coverage.

We live close by to the college and the helicopters had been flying round for ages. Pete's brother lived in the no go zone and a hek of a job going too and fro from his house. Jean.

Is Birmingham a very religeously oriented area? It was not years ago when I was there and no one in my family, or circle for that matter, was inclined to go to church. Faith was merely something to put down on a form ie., C of E or whatever. From what has been in the newspapers, maybe keeping this visit low key was planned. 'No faith' is an option.

I understand this visit has been controversal, but it is an important event for believers I guess and it does put Birmingham in the news worldwide which hopefully is no bad thing.

I cannot recall any Royal visits or Prime Ministerial visits to Birmingham lately, with an opportunity to see a drive past, whether we wanted to or not.

I can assure you, from the attendance yesterday at Cofton Park, that religeon in Birmingham is well and truly alive:)

Which is exactly why I never started a thread on the subject as I think we are supposed to steer clear of Religeon and Politics. But, that aside, it was truly a Historic moment:)
