After the general strike of 1926. For causing disaffection, He was elected an Alderman in 1934 and in 1945
He became the Labour MP for Spark rook a seat that He Held until his death in 1959!
Gallant policeman, rescued two women from spark hill fire in April 1941, yet again world war 1!
Although he had dislocated his collar bone a Birmingham policeman refused to give up his rescue efforts at a
Spark hill fire and forcing his way into a burning house lowered two women from a bedroom window
Before making his escape down a rope and collapsed,
The fire was in a living room of number 3 Tiverton place, popular rd spark hill
And the only two occupants of the house. Mrs ClareDavis. And her Daughter Alice,
Were unable to leave the bed room through the dense volume of smoke
Police constable. He wood, who with sergeant steward was near the house on his beat,
Heard the women screams and while hunt was being made for a ladder made an attempted to reach the women
Going up stairs,he fell and dislocated his collarbone,but succeeded in reaching the women and lowering
Them to safety after making his own escape. He had to be taken to the General Hospital
But was later Discharged ,, ,
He was awarded the George Medal, Thomas Montague He wood. Police constable E, 157.
