ONLY A WINTERS TALE

Many years ago on a cold Winters night
Me Mam and me found ourselves in a desperate plight
The fire was out and the larder was bare
We huddled together in a big easy chair
Our coal house was empty, no coal or wood
I finally decided that this was no good
I got myself dressed and said to me Mam
I'm just nippin out and I'm tekin the pram
I walked up the road to Mr Powers wood yard
It wunt very easy, it was snowing quite hard
I knew the bloke who owned had gone home for night
It was scary and cold in the dim lamplight
I climbed over the fence and opened the gate
Me heart wuz pounding, I wuz in a hell of a state
I loaded the pram just as fast as I could
I daint tek anything valuable , just some old wood
I turned the pram round and headed for hum
Trying to think of a story to tell to me Mum
Then the owner appeared and grabbed me by the collar
He held very tightly as I began to struggle and holler
Now Mr Powers was a giant of a man
So I thought I'd better explain as fast as I can
He said " I can't see you going without a fire
But God help you Son if I find your a liar
He took me straight home to be with me Mam
He left us the wood but took off with our old pram
I chopped up some wood and took it inside
Me Mam wuz so happy she almost cried
In less than an hour we wuz warm as could be
When we heard a noise coming from our entry
We looked outside and we saw a big bloke
Pushing our pram which wuz full of coke
Mr Powers looked up and said with a grin
Next time you come calling, don't break in
Now one thing I must tell you, this story is true
But we'll keep it a secret between me, me Mam, Mr Powers and you

THANK YOU TO A VERY KIND MAN

Just tremendous, and this from the man who only wrote one poem? It's a gem!!

 Jim mate that was just great and at the right time of year too, when we endless snippetts from 'A Christmas Carol'. However your Mr Powers was no Scrooge.

I fel the cold of the evening, and heard the crunch of snow under my feed.
The tingling in the pit of my stomache, and my goodness I even found
myself looking around my lounge room in case I was caught typing this at
7.30 am.

Well done.

Robert
