GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN R.I.P.
Souls of entertainers a long time gone
And their memories linger on
A lonely night a child stands there
Of their life I’m still aware
Being haunted from yesteryear
As they emerge from behind limelight’s
Still bringing happiness sharing their delights
Masters all of the variety show
Once stood the Aston Hippodrome in New Town Row

May I recall immortal names of long ago from a bygone age?
Appearing twice nightly from that maple wood stage
Jimmy Clitheroe and Wee Georgie Wood
Both of them so very good
Jimmy James and Eli executing a drunken act
Even though he was teetotal and that’s a fact
George Formby I played his gramophone records daily
I saw him there standing by a lamppost playing the ukulele
Our Gracie singing Sally from the ally
Frank Randal old Mother Riley prattling with gormless whit
Kepple Wilson Egyptian dancing on sand and grit
Along the row Sandy Powel marches
Can you hear me Mother
Tommy Handley with Corneal chin strap and Mrs Mop
Ted Ray he was another the list is endless it’ll never stop
Flanagan and Allan singing under the arches

I remember the ladies being extremely happy
After a night out with Charlie Chester the cheeky chappy
And the ladies encouraging him to have a look
In his little blue book
Just a few of the memories of entertainers that have long one
There’s one thing for certain though in our minds their soul still linger on

John

You recalled those 'immortal' names beautifully John..in a wonderfully descriptive Poem..

Of course I'm too young to remember these people  , but I enjoyed the poem..................and I'll show it the 'wrinklies' when they come :p

:D Used to love Jimmy Clitheroe in the 'Clitheroe Kid'.

'Old Mother Riley' at the Saturday Mattinee at 'The local Bug House' used to be so funny.

George Formby 'When I'm cleaning windows'. Did he also sing 'I want to go to Birmingham, my case has gone to Crew' or something like that :?:

Ted Ray 'Ray's (Raise) a laugh'

I also remember most of the others what a great poem.
