  • HI folks the server that hosts the site completely died including the Hdd's and backups.
    Luckily i create an offsite backup once a week! this has now been restored so we have lost a few days posts.
    im still fixing things at the moment so bear with me and im still working on all images 90% are fine the others im working on now
    we are now using a backup solution

LONDON (AP) — Rare color footage of the bomb damage inflicted on London during World War II has surfaced on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Blitz. The dramatic footage shows the destruction of several London landmarks, including the flagship John Lewis store on Oxford Street.
The film was released Monday by Westminster Council to mark the start of the devastating German bombing campaign that began September 7, 1940, and continued until May 1941.
The film was found in the attic by the family of an air raid warden who shot it on the home movie equipment in use in the 1940s.
The footage also shows wartime leader Winston Churchill visiting bomb sites to assess the damage.

Dib44 - that manages to be sad, horrific and interesting at the same time. I don't know why but I always think of history as black & white and it is such a surprise to see the Red Buses and blue ambulances of reality. Thanks for sharing it.
 
BBC Radio 4 this week IS doing a programme this week specialising on the Birmingham WW2 bombings:-

This Thursday, September 9 (for 15 mins only) at 10.45 am (repeated 7.45 pm) Radio 4.

And then I expect on the BBC radio i-player.
