Is this a joke ?? thats never gonna be Eric Burden & the Animals .
you would never see (if it is them ) on the streets of Birmingham
at that age , and besides the band was Geordie & from Newcastle
also the photo is early to mid 60s and Eric Burdon was born in
1941 which makes him in his early 20s .

ragga ....

Oh i see now Keith .... hehehe ... I really thought you were both
being serious , silly meeeeeeeeee .

ragga ......

just having a bit of fun there ragga. would have been great if it had have been them. hope it wont be long before someone recognises the lads. its a very clear photo. wales. house of the rising sun. in my opinion one of the all time classics.

Classic Eric & the Animals. There's a strong similarity to that lad in the photo, when you look closely!

hi all. ive just been given a book entitled poverty and opportunity 100 years of the birmingham settlement. it makes very interesting reading and heres a few pics out of it. maybe someone will recognise themselves. wales. im pretty sure this family are outside the 5 blocks of flats along new john st west. they are geach teviot ray schofield and martinau towers.

this last one has me stumped so i hope someone can confirm where it was. my guess is if you walk up that path the road running along is again new john st west and i think maybe the flats are some of the 5 i mentioned in the first pic. only a guess mind. im hoping someone will recognise the building. wales.

Astoness,
I have quite a few of these. They were photographed by my mum on half-frame 35mm slides, hence the dust. I did a mass scan some years ago and decided it would take too long to clean them all and that I might damage them in the procees. I could always go back and re-scan something worth the effort. Most of them are of people who would have been clients of the Family Service Unit at the time, late 1960s, early 1970s, I guess.
I did think about privacy etc. but I have no record who any of the subjects were and at least forty years have passed since they were taken so they are pretty well anonymous.
At the time the slum clearance programme must have been nearly completed, new buildings were springing up in the city centre, underpasses, ring roads etc. yet still there were bare-foot children around.

What fantastic photos, looking forward to seeing more of these. Its absolutely fine to take pictures of people in a public place.

hi spargone i think the slum clearances was still going on as late as the early 80s in some areas....

i take it pic 2 is meant to be somewhere in newtown?? i will have a better look at that one later on..

would love to see any other photos you have that you think will be of interest to the forum and the history of birmingham...

many thanks spargone:)
