master brummie
hi all you ex drivers,
i,m sure there is a good few of us out there,
the last truck i drove, well lived in almost
was a 17.1/2,ton leyland daf i used to deliver
nickel and alloy steel.
i used to like many other drivers well luckier than most i
had two maybe three night,s out at any one time,
i suppose again i was lucky to drive quite a modern truck
but even so it was not as easy as some people mite think.
a lot of time you would deliver export loads to the docks or collect a load,
and a lot of us know what that,s all about, could be hours or come back
in the morning,a lot of people you met thought and said what a life
on the road delivering to different places,no boss to push you,get a
life i used to say i,m not saying i did,nt enjoy the life but it had it,s
moments,i used to say how do you think it gets on and off the lorry
i used to have to chain a lot of the steel,or strap it down plus
sheet it being the nature of the load i was carrying.
you had some good nights in truck stops met some good blokes
or if you were unlucky it was the side of the road or a layby,
i tried to make a truck stop again because of my load, plus you
get a scrub in the morning.
i worked in a few factories before i took to the road,my dad
was a driver of the old school like a lot of guy,s i have read
about on here he worked for brs pickfords frank grounds even
triumph motorcycles in meriden, and of coarse i went with
him so it was in the blood so to speak.
i,ve two lads they used to come along, and they used to climb
into my bunk and go to sleep, or say are we there yet.
happy days i would,nt have missed it for the world.
keep on truckin regards dereklcg
