My friend within

My friend within

Like an albatross swiftly flying from the shadows
his mood changed quickly bringing with it his wrath,
The strong large hand struck my cheek.
Shadows of loneliness and sorrow filled my heart
with the pain not my cheek.
Fearing what was yet to come I froze.
Silently speaking to my friend within.
The hand lashed down repeatedly upon my head.
My friend inside held me tight, held my hand and said.
"Shush don't cry, don't let him see he causes you pain,
don't let him think he can win.
Just think what a beautiful day it's been.
The calm of the sun setting will quieten your heart.
Think of the tears as rain washing all your sorrows away,
washing your very spirit clean.
Sometimes the night is cold and empty,
Oft you think the heartache like the night will never end,
struggle no more with heartache
I'll carry it for you!
Remember the day brings new hope new sunshine,
slip into my arms, find comfort within,
hold me tighter I'm here for you.
Try not to grab the shadow of hopelessness and despair tonight.
The sun will rise soon you'll see.
Bringing new hopes new dreams.
Tomorrow has almost begun. Get ready, dry your eyes.
Go walk away into the sunshine of the new day
your new life is about to begin...
